Like the death of any loved one, it is very important to acknowledge the grief and pain associated with the loss of a pet. For many people, their pet is more than a toy or a plaything, it can be a beloved companion, best friend, helper, supporter and one who needs to be cared for. Perhaps this companion animal spent more time with you each day than any other living being? Perhaps you experienced unconditional love, faithfulness and loyalty from your pet in ways that have not been matched by humans? Perhaps you had this companion since they were very young and they have been dependent on you to care for and love them for a long time? Perhaps you gave a home to an unwanted animal who found not only a place to live but also a place in your heart to be loved? Perhaps you bred this animal or it was left with you when a relative died or went overseas? Perhaps this animal has been an essential companion to assist you because you are alone or you have a disability?
